PA. Bringing Ingenuity to Life.

As a team, we transform our client’s businesses using a combination of strategic thinking, customer-centric service design, and agile engineering practices. We do this at internet scale – driving innovation, and enriching people’s lives. Our skills and talent enable PA’s purpose of creating positive a human future in a technology driven world.

As part of our Digital team, you’ll work alongside colleagues from across PA – delivering transformative digital solutions to today’s most complex business challenges. Our teams are trusted to deliver and given the space to be awesome. We’re an inclusive community for the curious, generous, pragmatic and committed digital practitioner.

As a Principal consultant you can demonstrate experience working within a fast-paced multi-disciplinary digital environment and can evidence your ability to deal with large amounts of information, make decisions effectively, and guide engineers to achieve the best possible outcome for clients.

You will have established yourself as a trusted technology leader, from successful experience building business pipelines through to complex engineering delivery which may have included frontend and backend web or mobile development (e.g. .NET, Azure, HTML5 and JavaScript), solution architecture, infrastructure engineering and quality assurance.

You can evidence how you have identified new revenue opportunities and played a role in converting these into business growth as well as having delivered engineering projects of significant value.

You’re commercially savvy - with clear experience delivering effective estimation and working with cross discipline teams to get to the heart of a solution, articulating the engineering elements clearly to internal folk but critically, to clients too.

You’re an experienced line manager and mentor - actively interested in supporting engineers in both their career development and team contribution. You’ll get directly involved in recruitment - ensuring we continue to enjoy success by bringing on the very best people.

You have clear ideas on how things might be done and want to join a company where doing things the right way is a principle we strive to achieve daily. You inspire others to constructively test your position through open dialog and multi-disciplinary involvement to reach the right answer.

You’re obsessed with the excellence of approach, architecture and implementation. Standards matter a lot. If something isn’t right, you are not going to let it slide - the quality of the product or service and the resultant user experience is fundamentally important to how you approach your work.

You’re a self-starter with a strong entrepreneurial streak – able to prioritize your time effectively and build relationships across the Digital practice.

And finally - you’re not afraid of sitting down with clients and working solutions through with them in a highly collaborative and open way.

You can expect to be involved in all the following:

  • Developing detailed and compelling responses to new business opportunities alongside colleagues from other areas of our digital practice and the wider PA capabilities
  • Developing our relationships with clients, and industry partners, so that we can identify areas where we can provide additional value to their businesses.
  • Developing and mentoring teams (in-house and on client site) to solve for complex technology needs and deliver the right outcomes; including technology selection and hands-on delivery where appropriate.
  • Shaping and growing our Digital Engineering and DevOps practice, culture & people alongside our Partner Sponsors and Practice Lead

As a Lead Front-End Engineer, you’ll have experience working in teams to deliver robust and scalable solutions for the automation of complex business processes. Your team members will look to you as a trusted expert and will expect you to define the end to end software development lifecycle in line with modern best practices.

As a Lead Frontend Engineer, your key tasks and responsibilities will be to:

  • Develop high-quality websites and applications using well-crafted HTML, CSS and JavaScript including supporting backend development using Node and other frameworks where required.
  • Collaborate closely with our designers to develop in-browser prototypes, living style-guides, pattern libraries and re-usable UI components.
  • Work closely with our in-house QA team to marry unit tests with rigorous end-to-end testing to ensure applications function as expected.
  • Drive the team with specification workshops, writing acceptance criteria, story estimation, documentation and release planning.
  • Adopt and evolve PA’s engineering standards and practices, to ensure we have a shared and common approach to development and delivery.

To be successful in this role, you will need to have:

  • 5+ years commercial experience of developing websites using mobile-first, modular and responsive CSS (e.g. Sass/BEM, CSS Grid etc)
  • A good understanding of semantic HTML, WCAG accessibility guidelines, common issues across web and mobile devices, and how to fix them
  • 3+ years writing advanced JavaScript (beyond jQuery) using ES6 and frameworks such as Angular, React or Vue and their associated tooling (e.g. Webpack) and libraries (e.g. Redux)
  • An appreciation for progressive enhancement, graceful degradation and building for resilience
  • Experience of unit and integration testing (e.g. Jest/Enzyme/Cucumber)
  • An understanding of git, branching and continuous integration strategies
  • An understanding of the full web stack including HTTP, REST APIs and performance debugging
  • Be a confident problem solver, trouble-shooter and debugger in both development and production environments
  • Ability to convert client requirements into stories and tasks, help define acceptance criteria and provide estimates for delivery.
  • Ability to clearly communicate with clients and peers, describing technical issues and solutions in both written and meeting/workshop contexts. In addition to the above, we would be thrilled if you also had:
  • A demonstrable eye for good user interface design, typography and user experience
  • Experience of modern Content Management Systems (including headless mode)
  • Understanding of good agile principles using Scrum and Kanban
  • Experience of deploying web applications in cloud environments such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • You'll have expertise in architecture and will feel comfortable leading higher-level architectural discussions.
