Commercial Consultant

The role

PA Consulting works with clients who want to utilise technology to gain a commercial edge in new and established markets.  As the world changes at an ever-increasing rate PA’s clients use our technical expertise to get ahead of the curve.  The Life Sciences team uses a combination of fundamental science, research, marketing, operations, to support early stage and proof of concept projects to execution and launch- ultimately answering the questions, “Is this possible?  How do we make it happen?”  For this we need commercially-minded leaders who want to go further than just asking the questions by actually building teams, plans, and workflows to realize the solution.

  • We translate science and technology into commercially viable break-out products and processes
  • We give our clients a true competitive edge by providing the data and support to make rational and informed product development decisions
  • We do this by leading through the commercial workstream (early stage development, research, market access, KOL strategy, value proposition, pricing) and understanding of key partners (clinical, regulatory, Pharmacovigilance) w/ understanding of legal, regulatory and compliance requirements for pharma and med tech industry

  • Play an active role in all aspects of the client engagement including planning and development of resources and strategies to support and drive the client’s brand and business. This includes gathering and analyzing information, forming and testing hypotheses, recommendations, and solutions in collaboration with the client team.
  • Monitor and report on performance/progress across all functions (internal and client based) that are aligned to the brand: Marketing, Sales, Medical Affairs, Market Access, Commercial Operations, Supply Chain, Legal, Compliance, and Regulatory (KPI’s/scorecard/priorities/key deliverables).
  • Guide team members (Associates and Consultants) to effectively conduct tasks and contribute to project deliverables
  • Work closely with clients to determine project requirements and oversee all scheduling of necessary interactions to comprehend the client's business goals, products and expectations
  • Provide superb customer service - ability to actively listen to understand both what is being asked, and what is missing.
  • Responsible for ensuring that the project is completed in the time frame agreed upon and within the budgetary means and guide team members to
  • Identify and prepare proposals for opportunities for additional project work

What we're looking for

  • Relevant experience in Life Sciences (pharmaceuticals, biotech or med-tech)
  • Experience on projects that span multiple countries and/or global (no single country unless considerable in-depth expertise)
  • Experience in one or more of the following:
  • Virtual clinical trials (= trials of new drugs/interventions where patients are started in the trial virtually, treated at home / locally, and monitored remotely rather than in hospitals).  We are looking for people who have been involved in designing, project managing or running virtual clinical trials
  • Smart supply chain (= leveraging smart solutions such as electronic tagging of products & digital tracking to optimize supply of products from factory to end customer).  We are looking for people who have been involved in designing, transforming or running supply chains in Life Sciences, including connected devices
  • Personalized & digital health (= includes digital patient engagement strategies & solutions / precision medicine / personalized medicine, cell & gene therapy; connected devices / drug + delivery device + app; digital therapeutics e.g. online treatment for depression/ Real World Data strategies & solutions). We are looking for people who have been involved in bringing any of these types of products to market, across any of the following areas: commercialization, launch strategy / planning, market entry strategy, market access & reimbursement strategy, and compliance / data privacy strategy
  • Digital customer engagement (= using digital ways to engage with / communicate with patients, doctors and other customers).  We are looking for people who have been involved in designing customer engagement strategies, mapping patient / customer pathways or journeys, segmenting customers and creating personas, coordinating digital engagement along with in-person interactions

Qualifications:

Along with demonstrated initiative, uncompromised integrity and a results-oriented mindset, the ideal candidate has:

  • Master's (or foreign degree equivalent) in business or life sciences related field
  • Medical training is a plus
  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience in consulting management in the life sciences, pharmaceutical/biotech consulting or within industry
  • Engagement, organizational, and project management experience required
  • Must have experience in creating and evaluating commercial strategy for pharmaceutical, med tech, or biotech brands
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and ability to communicate complex ideas effectively – both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong presentation, storyboarding and PowerPoint skills
  • Exceptional analytical and quantitative problem-solving skills
  • Internally motivated problem solver - knows how to find answers to provide the best solution
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and effectively with people at all levels in an organization
  • Willingness to travel
